er well actually no, maybe its a "surprise" for every reader, but in fact this is an appeal for money...BIG money...I need £30 to help this girl be able to stay at school.
If you read my letter every week, you may recall me writing recently about a funeral in my village; it was the funeral of her Dad. She is called Pouy and is 16. She would have been going back to school this week, but with her father's death there are no funds to pay for her fees, her books and her uniform. Mum is unwell and is never going to be able to work and Pouy is suddenly looking at working in a noodle bar as a career.
The amount needed is so small, you probably why don't I just pay it myself ,rather than make a song and dance about it; but I dare not. I am happy to be the guy who has friends who can sometimes fix things, but I dare not become the banker to the village. I would be inundated with all manner of perfectly deserving requests and life will become impossible. If nobody can help, then like a character out of Wilde or Wodehouse, I will invent a cousin in the country who is able to pay.
If you can help, then don't worry about the mechanics of payment for the moment. If you are in UK they are very simple given that I have an account there but in any event on your say so I can give her the money and we can take our time over the details.
I apologise for taking advantage of you like this, and promise not to make a habit of it !
Best wishes
Alan
